Where history was written
The building that houses The Ald has a rich history that is closely linked to various publications of the Dutch government. Originally, the building was used by the National Printing Office, whose origins date back to the 16th century when the Netherlands fought for independence from Spain.
The Ald Boutique Hotel adds a new chapter to its long and eventful history, in which heritage is given a new purpose.
The State Printing House began its activities in Leiden under the leadership of Willem Silvius, who was appointed as the first printer for the States of Holland in 1577.
